This large 150 x 100 cm painting was created for a client in Kensington, West London. It was a somewhat new style for me, but one that I enjoyed painting very much. I have an enduring fascination with trees and this is a subject matter that I hope to explore a lot more in future paintings.
You can see that the background green colour looks a little different between the photos. This is the effect of the ambient light levels outside when I took the photos. When relevant, I try to point this out to customers and can send additional photos, including multiple close-ups, to try to give as accurate an indication of the true colours of the painting as possible.
The slight ‘ripples’ in the canvas you can see on some of the photos at the edges are because those photos were taken before the canvas was stretched. My normal proceedure is to attach the loose canvas to a large wooden board in order to paint it. Once the canvas was pulled taut over the wooden stretcher frame those ripples disappeared.
I normally don’t stretch the canvases myself but I did on this occasion. I then took the painting with me on the train and delivered it myself.
