This is a new version of my semi abstract red flower painting. This large canvas measures approximately 150 x 107.5 cm and I have used acrylic paint. In this picture I’ve experimented with using some light yellow as a base colour for the flower area, before then adding the red abstract flowers on top. Using the yellow in this way helps to suggest some yellow flowers in the background and also creates a degree of ‘warmth’ in the picture that was perhaps absent on some of my other paintings like this, where I applied the red paint for the flowers directly to the white canvas.
I recently mixed up some ‘apple’ green paint for a painting commission and I’ve been enjoying using this colour in other paintings. It is a bit lighter and more vibrant than the other green paint I have been using previously. I’m now using both greens in my work, as I have done in this painting. Sometimes I may use 3 or 4 greens in total depending on what sort of picture I am working on.
These flower paintings are some of my most popular with customers. They’re colourful and decorative and work well in people’s homes. I’m always developing my styles though and I have some more ideas about how I would like this type of picture to evolve in the future.
